PPG Color Work Station—The Voice of Color

Launching a new Color System to its dealer network for the first time in 15 years presented technical, financial, and logistical challenges for PPG.

Compounding the task was the demand for a technology solution to guide consumers through a complex color matrix. The marriage of a newly developed color system and cutting edge technology would position PPG at the vanguard for the home decorating, DIY channel, and re-energize the existing dealer network. While developing proprietary technology in-house, PPG solicited proposals from 5 companies for the final development, sourcing, and execution of this complex program. The selected partner would be required to provide the best cost/value equation while demonstrating the ability to integrate the emerging design and technology components.

Coordinating with both PPG and their program partners, TWM360 designed the Voice of Color Program around two color palettes called Core and Harmony. TWM360’s Applied Technology Group worked closely with PPG’s IT Department to ensure proper operation of the new interactive color selection program and optimum placement of wireless communication components. Rigid timelines were coordinated through both domestic and off-shore suppliers, and manufacturing capacity provided concurrent assembly of all three sections for integrated shipment and installation in both the US and Canada.

The Voice of Color Launch Program was enthusiastically embraced and applauded by the dealers. Regional dealer shows were supported in 5 different cities – adding to the excitement of the program launch.
